West End Pier in Chateau, Pittsburgh, PA

The North Shore of Pittsburgh is teeming with activity for tourists and locals. Stadiums, performance venues, museums, and the casino are unified by the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, allowing those on foot or by bicycle to enjoy spectacular views of the city skyline and iconic bridges. The West End Pier continues the journey along the historic riverfront acting as a gateway to the gritty manufacturing neighborhood of Chateau.

Photo Sequence

The promenade gradually veers away from the land towards a vestige of Pittsburgh’s industrial past in the Ohio River. At the convergence point of the pier, a trail occupies a rusty barge trafficking relic. Recreational amenities, such as kayaking and fishing, are catered to in the lagoon environment created by the space between the bermed outdoor amphitheater and elevated pier structure.
